The Volkswagen VW B6 / B7 MEGAMOS 48 Steering Lock Emulator is designed to bypass a faulty Electronic Steering Lock (ESL/ELV) in Passat models from 2006–2014. Unlike standard emulators, “with lock sound” versions simulate the mechanical noise of the original lock to maintain a stock feel.
Programming Requirements
Programming is mandatory for this unit to function. It involves extracting security data from your vehicle and synchronizing the new emulator with the original hardware.
Extract Immo Data: You must read the EEPROM (ST-M95320) from the car’s Comfort Module (CCM), typically located under the carpet in front of the front passenger seat.
Recommended Tools: Device like the Xhorse VVDI PROG or Orange 5 are commonly used to read this chip.
Write to Emulator: Save the “dump” file from the CCM and write it onto the EEPROM of the emulator.
Synchronization: Many units (such as the MK3 version) require a specific Connection Adapter to sync the emulator with the original ELV.
Connect the OBD plug, the original ELV, and the emulator together.
The LEDs will flash for 2–3 minutes; a steady green light indicates successful synchronization.
Installation Steps
Preparation: Ensure the key is out of the ignition slot before removing the Comfort Module.
Replacement: Once programmed, the emulator replaces both the steering lock and the key reader (base station).
Final Step: Plug the emulator into the original ESL connector and reinstall the Comfort Module.
Important Note
A common side effect of this bypass is that the car may be able to start with any key blank that fits the slot, as the emulator may bypass the transponder check depending on the specific model and programming method used.
Do you have the necessary EEPROM reading tools to extract the data from your Comfort Module?
