What Does Check Fuel Fill Inlet Mean? Is it dangerous How to Fix, Reset or Delete Code

The “Check Fuel Fill Inlet” message is a warning most common in Ford vehicles. It means the car’s Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system has detected a fuel vapor leak, typically because the fuel tank is not properly sealed.
Is It Dangerous?
It is not an immediate safety emergency, and you can typically continue driving your trip. However, it should be addressed as soon as possible because:
Emissions: It releases harmful fuel vapors into the environment.
Efficiency: It can lead to decreased gas mileage.
Performance: A loss of vacuum pressure can cause rough idling or sluggish acceleration.
How to Fix
Check the Gas Cap: If your car has one, ensure it is tight. If it is loose, missing, or has a cracked rubber seal, tighten or replace it.
Clean for Capless Systems: For Ford’s “Easy Fuel” capless systems, dirt or debris often prevents the internal spring-loaded flap from sealing.
Use compressed air to blow out debris.
Wipe the area with a clean, moist rag.
Lubricate the seal by spraying a small amount of WD-40 or light oil on a funnel and inserting/removing it several times to clear the mechanism.
Inspect for Deeper Issues: If cleaning doesn’t work, there may be a cracked fuel line, a faulty purge valve, or a malfunctioning sensor.
How to Reset or Delete the Code
The message typically won’t disappear the moment you fix the seal; the car must re-run its internal emissions test.
Drive Cycle: Drive for 60–80 miles or through several start-stop cycles to let the system verify the fix.
OBD-II Scanner: Use an OBD-II scanner to manually clear the code (often P0457, P0455, or P0456).
Battery Reset: Disconnect the car battery for about 10 minutes to perform a hard reset, though the light will return if the underlying leak still exists.
