Tesla OBD2 to 12 Pin OBD Adapter Diagnostic Scan Cable Model X / S 2012-2015

The Tesla OBDII to 12-Pin Adapter is a specialized diagnostic harness designed for Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured between 2012 and September 2015. Early Tesla models do not use a standard OBD-II port for diagnostics; instead, they feature a proprietary 12-pin connector that requires this adapter to interface with standard 16-pin OBD-II scan tools.
What It Does
Accesses Hidden Data: It allows you to read CANBUS data that is not visible on the vehicle’s main touchscreen, such as individual battery cell voltages, motor temperatures, and battery pack health.
Enables DIY Diagnostics: When paired with a compatible OBD-II dongle (like the OBDLink MX+), you can use mobile apps like Scan My Tesla or tesLAX to monitor real-time performance and efficiency.
Clears Codes: It can be used with professional-grade scanners (e.g., Autel MaxiSYS or Launch X431) to perform service tasks and clear error codes.
Key Compatibility & Placement
Supported Models: Specifically for pre-facelift Model S and early Model X vehicles (2012–2015).
Port Location: The 12-pin “Tesla Diagnostic Connector” (TDC) is typically found behind the cubby/drawer under the main Media Control Unit (MCU) screen or behind the side panel of the instrument panel.
Installation Note: It is critical to power down the vehicle or disconnect the 12V battery and high-voltage loop before plugging in the adapter to avoid damaging electronic systems.
What’s Required to Use It
This cable is only an adapter. To actually see data, you also need:
An OBD-II Dongle: A Bluetooth or WiFi scanner (e.g., OBDLink LX/MX+ or vLinker MC).
Diagnostic Software: An app such as Scan My Tesla, TM-Spy, or tesLAX installed on your smartphone or tablet.
