BMW & MINI ELV ESL Steering Lock Emulator – R55 R56 E-Series

The BMW Steering Lock Emulator is a plug-and-play bypass tool designed to resolve electronic steering lock (ELV/ESL) failures in various BMW and Mini Cooper models. It permanently simulates a working lock mechanism, allowing the vehicle to start even when the original mechanical lock has failed.
Compatibility
This emulator is compatible with models using CAS2, CAS3, and CAS3+ units, including:
BMW 3 Series: E90, E91, E92, E93.
BMW 5 Series: E60, E61.
Other BMW Models: E63/E64 (6 Series), E81/E82/E87 (1 Series), and E84 (X1).
Mini Cooper: R55, R56.
Key Symptoms of ELV Failure
You may need an emulator if your vehicle displays the following:
Yellow Steering Lock Icon: Initial warning; the car usually still starts.
Red Steering Lock Icon: Critical failure; the car is immobilized and will not crank.
No Start/No Crank: The dashboard may light up, but the engine does not attempt to fire.
Installation Guide
Installation typically takes 15–30 minutes and does not require soldering or complex wiring.
Preparation: Ensure the steering wheel is unlocked before starting. If it is stuck in the locked position, you must mechanically remove the lock first.
Access the Module: Remove the lower dashboard panels (kick panels) using a T20 screwdriver to access the steering column.
Disconnect Original Lock: Unplug the 4-pin black connector from the original ELV module.
Connect Emulator: Match pin 1 of your vehicle’s harness with pin 1 on the emulator and plug it in.
Clear Codes: In many cases, you must use a diagnostic tool (like INPA or Tool32) to reset the ELV fault counter in the CAS module for the car to recognize the new emulator and start.
