1. What is the Probyte USB Dongle Key?

The USB dongle is a hardware security and protection key.

• The Software License Anchor: It acts as a physical credential. Without the USB dongle plugged into your computer, the Probyte Edit software will not launch or edit files.
• Unique ID Storage: Every single dongle contains a unique hardcoded serial number (or Key ID). This specific ID is what developers use to link and authorize the software modules you purchase.
• Portability: Because the licenses are stored on the physical USB key rather than a specific PC, you can move the dongle to different computers in your workshop without losing your activations.

2. What is Software Module Activation?

Probyte works on a modular architecture. When you buy the tool, you buy access to specific software modules that correspond to different car brands, electronic control units (ECUs), and vehicle components.

Instead of paying a monthly or yearly subscription, you pay a one-time fee to permanently activate the specific modules you need.

4. Server Synchronization: Once the developer activates the module on their end, you go to the Settings menu inside the Probyte software and click “Synchronization with the server”. The software contacts the mother-server, reads the updated permissions, and writes the activation data directly onto your USB dongle.
